It's that time of year again. The time of year when we spread yuletide cheer, buy obligatory gifts, and go see El Monstero!
Steve and I started going to El Monstero about 13 or 14 years ago. We've lost track on when we first went. But since that initial experience, we've never missed a year. My wife doesn't quite understand how we can go see the "same show every year". I try to explain to her that while it's (mostly) the same music it's a much different show each year. And, more importantly it's a tradition. When we started going, the band's stage presence was minimal including only props representing scenes from 'The Wall', lasers, and video images. Now when we go, I have to remind myself that this is a tribute band consisting of local musicians.. Their stage presence is phenomenal. They aren't just playing the music. They are performing it.
If you've never seen them, the basic set list is both 'The Wall' and 'Dark Side Of The Moon' in their entireties, most - and sometimes all of 'Wish You Were Here' and a whole bunch of other stuff thrown in. It's about a 3-hour show. Check out my videos linked below from recent shows.
Of course, we are headed there again this year. Though gone are the days of standing on the sidewalk in below freezing temperatures waiting to get in! And, this year I get to bring two of my sons. They aren't Pink Floyd fans but by accepting a free ticket from Dad their very limited knowledge of the Floyd catalog will surely expand and hopefully so will their appreciation for the music itself - thanks to Mark, Jimmy, and the rest of the band.
Check them out at www.elmonstero.com, like them on Facebook , and for goodness sake, buy a ticket to one of the shows. (note this: we are just fans and not affiliated in any way with the band, K-SHE, or the Pageant)
